Marvel Casts Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider
The Story
Marvel Studios electrified San Diego Comic Con 2026 by casting Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider and naming David Jonsson the new Black Panther during its Hall H panel.
Gosling, who has said for years that he wanted the role, will star in a Ghost Rider film directed by Deadpool and Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy that arrives in 2028.
Ryan Coogler is returning to direct a third Black Panther film, with Jonsson playing T'Challa II, the son of Chadwick Boseman's character, in a coming of age story.
Kevin Feige also announced that Avengers Endgame returns to theaters on September 25 with new footage to set the stage for Avengers Doomsday, which opens December 18.
The Doomsday cast, from Robert Downey Jr. to original X Men film stars, unveiled an exclusive trailer while the whole hall donned Doom masks and capes.
Jon Bernthal teased Spider Man Brand New Day, opening July 31, which pits his Punisher and Tom Holland's Spider Man against Mark Ruffalo's Hulk.

Why It Matters
The next box office test has already arrived. Spider Man: Brand New Day passed $2.4 billion worldwide by September 6, 2026, while heading for a sixth weekend in first place, TheWrap reported. That gives Marvel's casting announcements a stronger commercial backdrop than the July preview could claim, but one established character cannot guarantee audiences for another. Ryan Gosling's Ghost Rider and the next Black Panther still have to convert curiosity into ticket sales.
