The Odyssey Becomes the Highest Grossing R Rated Film Ever
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey has become the highest grossing film ever rated R, taking 1.35 billion dollars worldwide and passing Deadpool and Wolverine.

The 2024 Marvel film sits at 1.34 billion dollars according to figures compiled by the Numbers, and The Odyssey is now the biggest hit of Nolan's career, ahead of The Dark Knight Rises at 1.082 billion.

The Motion Picture Association rated the film R for violence and some language, a classification that requires anyone under 17 to be accompanied by an adult and is normally treated as a brake on box office expectations.

Deadpool and Wolverine still leads in North America, with 637 million dollars against 516 million for The Odyssey.

Nolan's film draws unusually strong interest abroad, taking 92.7 million dollars in the UK and Ireland, 69.3 million in France, 55.6 million in Italy and 36.3 million in China.

Matt Damon plays Odysseus, with Tom Holland as Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope.

The total could rise further while the film competes with the latest Spider Man release, which has already passed 2 billion dollars worldwide.
